I noticed, that I receive my postings always twice (i.e. by e-mail). Is that because I subscribed to etcetera in general and always choose to subscribe to my posting in addition? Is that a feature or a bug? Personally, I find it rather confusing and unnecessary.

This is intended behavior. You can subscribe to both the forum, and a thread. If you post to a thread you are subscribed to it. That is why you receive two emails.
Some users don't want to receive all posts in a forum, so they only subscribe to their thread; however, some do want all posts emailed to them, which is why you can also subscribe to a forum to receive everything. You should only be receiving two emails when you are participating in a thread. Otherwise, you will only receive one.

Hm, I see the point in differentiating between subscriptions to the forum and subscriptions to a particular thread. But why send the message twice? Wouldn't it be easy enough to
check whether a user has already subscribed to the entire forum and not send the message a second time? Sure, it is not a big issue. But somehow I find it disturbing...
