I just did a search on the page of the German linux magazine. Interestingly, I found an article on WebGUI from 2004. That is a long time ago. I think we should get in touch and ask them for an update. Does anyone have experience with these things? What is usually the best strategy in order to get this done?

Just saw that there is an address specified for article offers under contacts:

Leserbriefe, Artikelangebote, allgemeine Anfragen: redaktion@linux-magazin.de

Anyone willing to write an article? I would but I do not have sufficient experience. I could translate, however.

If the PlainBlack marketing department could come up with a 'look what we have achieved' article ready for publishing in for example Linux Magazines that would help a lot.

We could translate it into dutch, and have it published in the Dutch Linux Magazine.

However, such an effort should be coordinated so that the article would appear in quite some magazines at the same time.

Tavis? What are your thoughts on this?

No one interested or just everyone on vacation? I have started an outline and put it in the wiki. Add your thoughts if you like.

Yes this is a great idea. Kristi and I can whip up a nice article and then move on to having it translated.

I'm going to throw the article from 2004 into a translator so that I understand the original article. Then we can expand upon it. :)

Hi Bernd,

I already put this into a translator and read through the article. It was very well done and I was impressed that he included the installation instructions.

Kristi is working on a new article and she's going to include many of the topics that you included in your outline. In addition, she's going to include some of the high profile organizations that are using WebGUI so that there is credibility around the product as well.

So, stay tuned for a new article. Will be in touch soon.

Regards,

-Tavi

Great! I am quite impressed by your pace. Once I got the final outline and names of the official authors (preferably including some background) I am going to call publishers. I found two more magazines that may be suitable (see my other reply). Let me know which ones I should contact.

There are two other German magazines suitable for our article (both published by Heise):

iX - magazine for professional information technology. Broad focus with respect to networking technology in general. Covers software, new technology, server hardware, web development, etc. Probably less suited for attracting new community members but possibly customers.

c't - magazine for computer technology. Very broad focus. Covers about everything from software to hardware, any systems. Probably less suited for attracting new community members or finding customers. But large readership and possibly good for advertising the name WebGUI.

The German linux-magazine focusses on professionals and advanced home users. It is probably best for attracting new community members.

I subscribe to the English edition of Linux Magazine, it's pretty good, some things are very basic, some things far more advanced, lots of hands on stuff to type in though.

This month's had a few pages on Django on how to get it up and running, so I think WebGUI would be a good fit.

C'T has contacted us several times and has stated WebGUI would be included in a CD that is included with the magazine publications. In addition, we were also selected to be on some big 25th anniversary edition CD and on their website. However, I haven't heard anything from them nor have we received any copies of the publication at our corporate offices. (like they stated we would once it was included)

So, I'm not really sure what our status is on C'T. Maybe I'm just not waiting long enough but this was probably 2-3 months ago that I worked with them a 2nd time to get into their publication.

I tried to search around the C'T site but didn't find anything related to WebGUI. Can you provide any assistance with this? Maybe I'm missing something since most of the site is in German. :)

Regards,

-Tavi
