I thought we used to have a note on the wiki or somewhere explaining how to configure mod_proxy to point a specific domain to a bare apache running on the same machine (or just right to an htdocs directory), but I don't seem to be able to find it.

WebGUI listening on another port

Is there anyway to have WebGUI listen on another port, like 15000 as well as 80/8080? Reason being is that my ISP blocks ports for webservers. I added Listen 15000 in /data/wre/etc/modproxy.conf

changing/adding webserver port

It seems my ISP is blocking incoming requests for Webservers. I have the firewall configured correctly. I added Listen 15000 to my ports.conf for Apache2. I presume WebGUI intercepts the normal Apache2 server? Is there a way to add the port to what WebGUI listens for? What file would these settings be stored?

Installing on Ubuntu 8.04

I am a relative Linux newbie with advanced knowledge in programming on other platforms. I installed Ubuntu server 8.04 with LAMP. I tried to install WebGUI 7.4.40 (stable) from source and found that some of the requirements (latest ImageMagick) weren't installed and must have botched it up somehow. When I ran the testEnvironment.pl script, there were many Perl modules that were not installed and I had a hard time finding the latest versions of the modules , if I could find the modules. I was using CPAN, but it wouldn't compile/install the modules correctly and kept giving me errors. I am using aptitude to search and install the packages otherwise.

Suggested Distro for Easiest install?

Hello everyone, I am running into some problems with the Ubuntu server install instructions, and the forums and wiki don't seem to point in the same direction. I don't have anything else on the box at this point and don't mind starting from scratch. What I want to know is: Which specific distro would give me a guaranteed-working easy-as-pie install? Clay Michaels P.S. It always frustrates me how much simpler it is to install in Windows, but I am sure there is a "good reason" it is always so complicated in POSIX systems. Not suggesting anything, just venting. *sigh*

installing WRE

Hello everybody! My name is Maria and I am a newbie in CMS's, open source and websites. I am trying to do a WRE install and I am using Winwows XP. As I understand there are different WRE versions depending on platforms, and there is one for windows but also one platform independent? This platform independent type, is that one adjusted for both windows, linux and others? And does that mean that you can both install and manage content from all these OS's? I am doing this in helping a Swedish organisation which uses a web host called Loopia. I do not know what services or applications they can provide (but could of course look it up), but it is adjusted for both databases/mysql, phplanguage and more although I don't know how we will be able to use that while using webGUI. I have now downloaded wre-0.8.3-source.tar.gz, as I understand the platform independent version. I have been reading the WRE install help but it's a lot greek to me- I understand it as if these instructions "1. Unpack the archive. mkdir /data cd /data tar xvfz /path/to/wre-x.x.x-osname.tar.gz" ...are meant to be commands in some special protocol or language. Cause I suppose it isn't names of the files in the archive? Could someone of you be able to help mne further? Is there maybe somewhere a guide that is adjusted for not as experienced people? Thanks in advance! Regards, Maria

Installing ImageMagick / PerlMagick

AHHHHH. So I've tried so many different combinations it's not funny. Has anyone succesfully installed ImageMagick/PerlMagick for windows xp? I've got a problem where I can't get the thumbnails to be created, and I'm fairly certain it has to do with the fact that my ImageMagick / PerlMagick versions are incorrect. But I can't find the right versions online. I've tried to do an "install Image::Magick" via cpan, but when I do that it fails (see below). So I've tried to get the binary online, but the 6.4.0 binary for windows I can't get the PerlMagick to install (in the instructions it says to do: ppm install Image-Magick.ppd) and when I do that I get: ppm install failed: The PPD does not provide code to install for this platform. I've tried pervious versions of ImageMagick but they give the same error: cl : Command line error D8004 : '/W' requires an argument (see below). Any help would be appreciated.
Wre Installation - Mysql process problems

Hi Folks, I have carried out a wre install on Linux and I'm having some problems with the console restarting the MySql process (other processes modprox/perl/spectre all seem fine). Whenever I try to start/restart I get the messege "MySQL did not restart successfully." However when I check the linux console I can see the process running and there are no errors in the log. How does the wre console determine if the process has started successfully ? Thanks in advance.
Just trying to get stable 7.4.21 sites on a new server, fresh install of WRE 0.8.3. I've had some problems in the log of modproxy with Memcached.pm, resolved by using cpan to install Cache::Memcached. Should this be included in the WRE? Or is it not used by WebGUI any more, if so can I remove it from my sites? Can't find much on Memcached on here. I'm getting a FAILURE when starting modproxy, but it seems to be running OK and can't see anything in the modproxy.error.log, nothing extra when I run wreservice.pl verbose, is there anything else I can check?

Problem upgrading to 7.5 on WRE 0.8.3

I have two WebGUI sites running on an FC 4 server, on an old WRE, and they have been upgraded as far as 7.4.21. We have a new server running Redhat Enterprise 5, I have installed the latest WRE, 0.8.3, and copied the existing sites to it. It's running ok with 7.4.21. But now I want to upgrade (beta branch). So I've used the webgui updater to get 7.5.5-beta (also tried 7.5.0-beta) but every time I run the upgrade script, I get failures on the assetIndex table, see below. I have tried running repairs on the table and trying again but it complains there are duplicate keys. Has anyone else had this problem and found a solution? [...] Installing Photo asset...DONE!
I'd like to use webgui for a new website to be hosted on the same box that is already running a LAMP based set of websites. Is there any way this can be done?
Lighttpd webserver with WebGUI.

Hi, I am thinking of using Lighttpd (http://www.lighttpd.net) as the proxy server instead of Apache simply because it is lighter and faster. Got that information from the web. Does anyone have some experience with lighttpd? Need to find out how to convert the apache proxy config with the rewrite into lighttpd config. If anyone has some experince with lighttpd, please share the links or knowledge on how to do this. Especially the rewrite rules. P.V.Anthony

Plesk enviroment

I plan on installing WebGUI 7 (Stable Release) this week on a new dedicated server. For the past few years I've been using WebGUI 5.5.4 to host several sites with NO complaints, using Fedora Core 2 Linux 2.6.11.9 and Plesk 7. Now I want to turn it up a notch The new server comes pre-installed with: Dual Core AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ 2 x 2.2 GHz 2 GB DDR RAM Fedora Core 6 (Linux) Plesk 8 I don't want to interfer with Plesk by installing WebGUI, this is why I think a source install would be better??? I don't need Plesk to administer WebGUI sites, that I do manually, I use plesk to create and manage my vhosts, and manually add any site to use WebGUI. My questions are: Source install or WRE? Anyone else using the same enviroment with tips? I made a feeble attempt last year to do this, and although I managed to install and run webgui and spectre they were never able to communicate with the vhost. This week a fresh approach. I will have many question to come. Thanks,

start apache modperl fails in WRE Console

wreconsole.pl ran fine until I tried to start Apache mod_perl. The errMsg in the browser is "Modperl did not start successfully". modperl.error.log is more informative--"WebGUI': You must have either Graphics::Magick or Image::Magick installed to run WebGUI" and the error log backtracks up the call stack. I had daegbat's problem starting wreconsole.pl mentioned in this thread (http://www.plainblack.com/install/upgrade_help/windows-wre-0_8_1#daHVKwBwoZC1_VAYTjrlng). This problem is related to Active State Perl 5.10's being installed. Since I need perl for my own scripts, I worked around the problem by starting wreconsole with an absolute path (c:\data\wre\prereqs\bin\perl wreconsole.pl). Is it possible that I am running some strange mixture of Active State's Perl 5.10 and WRE's Perl 5.8.8? Does anyone have any idea how I can run wreconsole.pl without uninstalling Active State Perl 5.10? I could mess around with environment variables to disable Active State but I'd prefer any other solution. TIA, FredH

Trying to install WebGUI on Windows, I get a problem that seems related to the fact that c:\data\WebGUI\ is empty. I will appreciate some help. Here are the details: I am installing from wre-0.8.1-windows-xp-ia32.zip I followed the procedure explained in http://www.signalmountain.co.uk/WebGui.html, skipping the first part (Install ActivePerl) which was generating problems. I reprint these steps below: ------------------------ 2. Install WebGui WRE ------------------------

WRE install problem RHEL3

Hi, have been trying to install WRE 0.8.1 tonight.. no succes.. - clean install WRE 0.8.1 (on the box has ran WRE 0.7.2, so DNS etc is ok) - followed the wiki as much as possible, automatic install - added a site - started the webservers and spectre in the right order (beginning at the top) - all but spectre starts [root@server sbin]# wreservice.pl --start --verbose spectre Start S.P.E.C.T.R.E.: "to_json" is not exported by the JSON module Can't continue after import errors at ../lib/Spectre/Cron.pm line 22 BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at ../lib/Spectre/Cron.pm line 22. It's getting in a loop, every time you get back to the console install screen "manual or automatic" When you start installing the first time - with manual install - you get this error: Configuring Apache. Configuring WebGUI. Error: Unable to open '/data/WebGUI/etc/log.conf.original': No such file or directory ----------------- [root@server sbin]# perl spectre.pl --test "to_json" is not exported by the JSON module Can't continue after import errors at ../lib/Spectre/Cron.pm line 22 BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at ../lib/Spectre/Cron.pm line 22. BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at spectre.pl line 16. It seems that 7.5.1 beta is getting installed. (I actually want 7.4.22) I've tried as well to update JSON and Config::JSON, just after unpacking and setEnvironment. Thats doesn't work, wreconsole is not JSON 2.xx and Webgui 7.5.1 not 1.xx ?!? - Have added the hostname from WRE in /etc/hosts - I choose in spectre.conf port 81 instead of 80 - Firewall ports are open What can I try more? Almost every error I see seems to be related to JSON etc somehow...

WRE installation best practices

When installing the WRE I reccommend: installing a firewall beforehand that only has the right ports open for access from the outside 80 and 443 for web-access 22 for access via ssh installing WRE as a normal user running the WRE as a normal user add hostnames you use in the WRE into /etc/hosts so that S.P.E.C.T.R.E. goes to the right site (the one on that machine for sure). What other tips have you got for me?

There are a lot of denendencies required from an out-of-the-box Ubuntu 7.10 install and this log more or less tells you how to solve them. # installed Ubuntu server from 7.10 ISO file, selecting LAMP and openssh-server # downloaded and extracted webgui-7.4.19-stable.tar.gz into /home/bill/webgui # installed this list of hard-won dependencies sudo apt-get install build-essential ncurses-dev imagemagick unzip lynx ncftp libapache2-mod-apreq2 libapache2-mod-perl2 libapache2-mod-perl2-dev libgraphics-magick-perl libssl-dev apache2-threaded-dev graphicsmagick libgraphics-magick-perl perlmagick krb5-config libkrb5-dev openssl perl-doc # update ubuntu sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade # get rid of dash in Ubuntu sudo rm /bin/sh sudo ln -s /bin/sh.distrib /bin/sh # loaded required modules into apache sudo ln -s /etc/apache2/mods-available/apreq.load /etc/apache2/mods-enabled/apreq.load # configured the apache perl module sudo vi /etc/apache2/mods-available/perl.conf (inserted the following lines) PerlSetVar WebguiRoot /data/WebGUI PerlCleanupHandler Apache2::SizeLimit PerlRequire /data/WebGUI/sbin/preload.perl # load the config into apache sudo ln -s /etc/apache2/mods-available/perl.conf /etc/apache2/mods-enabled/perl.conf # installed a lot of CPAN modules that are required, but that testEnvironment.pl doesn't detect sudo cpan (answered 500 to cache size) (answered atstart) (answered yes to cache) (answered yes to terminal iso question) (accepted history yes and 100) (answered 'follow' to prerequisites question) (accepted all defaults to program locations) (VERY IMPORTANT!!! ansewer space (' ') perl make params to override default 'INSTALLDIRS=site') (if you don't do this, Apache2::Request will not build correctly) (answered -j3 to accept dual processors, because my machine is dual) (accepted defaults to rest of prompts) # while still in cpan, install all of the following: install ExtUtils::CBuilder install ExtUtils::XSBuilder install Cwd install Image::Magick install DateTime install Date::Manip install Time::Format_XS force install Time::Format force install IO::Socket::INET6 install Net::DNS install Authen::SASL (yes to GSSAPI optional install) # at this point, GSSAPI dies with some problems, so quit cpan, delete the cached download and try again, with: sudo rm -rf /home/bill/.cpan/build/Authen-SASL-2.10 sudo cpan install Authen::SASL again install File::Temp install Net::LDAP (yes to all optional modules, no to tests) quit # at this point, most of the CPAN modules should be installed, so setup the WebGUI site files sudo mkdir /data sudo mv /home/bill/webgui/WebGUI/ /data cd /data/WebGUI/etc sudo cp log.conf.original log.conf sudo touch /var/log/webgui.log sudo chown nobody /var/log/webgui.log sudo chown -R www-data:www-data /data # now run the test script to build the rest of the CPAN modules it needs cd /data/WebGUI/sbin sudo perl testEnvironment.pl # if dies after Config::JSON install because of obsoleted function in test, so restart and force the install using cpan sudo cpan force install Config::JSON quit # repeat the test script again sudo perl testEnvironment.pl (skip POE tests) # everything is OK when you see: WebGUI modules: Not Found. I'm not saying this is the perfect way to do things, but it worked for me, and I'd welcome any suggestions to improve on the way I have done it. Enjoy! Bill Frost :)BF

wreconsole on Fedora 8

I've been trying to install the WRE on Fedora 8. Building from source failed in the first utility, lftp with undefined reference to `tputs' and the like. termcap seems to be causing the problem, but I'm not sure why. I have also tried using the RHEL4 build of wre-0.8.1, but when running the wreconsole I keep coming up against problems reading config files in /data/WebGUI/etc/, then admin passwords when accessing mysql. I have disabled SELinux. What's the best way forward please?

Not sure if I should startup the wreconsole to reset the wre.conf to be compatible with 0.8.1or not. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Problems with MySQL after WRE 0.8.1 Upgrade (ft_min_word_len=2)

After I've upgraded WRE to 0.8.1, MySQL reports Incorrect key file for table for assetIndex.MYI and suggests to try to repair the table. If one takes ft_min_word_len=2 away from my.cnf config file right after the upgrade, it works fine. I am running WebGUI 7.4.14 on SuSe SLES Linux (64 bit), WRE built from source. The question is whether this is specific for my configuration or a general problem.

WebGUI Source install (multiple site problems)

Hey guys, I've finished a source install of WebGUI 7.4.13 on an FC5 server. Got the first site up and running nicely, but on setting up another site it presented a Fatal Internal Error on the first site whilst the second site now works beautifully. Is this something that's been seen before? Or could I have just missed something along the way? Cheers, Russ

Small mistake in "http://www.webgui.org/community-wiki/source-install"?

After my source install I could'nt see the getting started movie and 'your next step' pictures. There seems to be a small mistake in the source-install page. WebGUI Files mkdir -p /data/domains/www.example.com/public cd /data/domains/www.example.com mkdir logs cp /data/WebGUI/etc/WebGUI.conf.original /data/WebGUI/etc/www.example.com.conf cd public mkdir uploads mkdir extras cp -R /data/WebGUI/www/uploads ./uploads chown -Rf nobody uploads This procedure produces /data/WebGUI/etc/www.example.com/public/uploads/uploads which will not correspond with the "WebGUI Site Configuration" section settings on the sourc-install page. Remedy for this would be either to remove the mkdir uploads line or to change the line before last with cp -R /data/WebGUI/www/uploads/* ./uploads Regards, leopardus

Dealing with styles on an upgraded site

After a long hiatus, I'm back to trying to get my daughter's school's webgui site upgraded from version 5.x to current. The upgrade scripts all ran smoothly (with tweaks) but the site is non-functional in some fairly frustrating ways-- mainly, the site "style" is outdated and the admin console won't work reliably using the updated style. (I can get into some of the admin functions, but it won't let me edit any assets). There's nothing special about the style we're using, so I would love to create or install a new style, which seems like it would fix this problem. However, I haven't been able to get any new styles installed and working. Any suggestions for solving this chicken-and-egg problem? I'm pretty technically sophisticated, have an expert-level understanding of MySQL and an advanced beginner's understanding of perl, but I'm pretty stumped by this issue. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

FYI - WRE0.8 on Amazon EC2

If you are trying out WG7 and WRE0.8 on Amazon EC2, the new EC2 instances use NAT addresses (with both a public and private address). You can accept the default stock wre install for everything except for one thing: In the sitename.modproxy config, you need to manually update this: # proxy webgui pages #RewriteRule ^/(.*) http://%{HTTP_HOST}:8081/$1 [P] RewriteRule ^/(.*) http://<INTERNAL_IP>:8081/$1 [P] I haven't found out how to dynamically grab the internal IP, so for now it is just hard coded in. Using HTTP_HOST will result in a bad gateway error. Hope this helps anyone else using EC2.

Clarification - "Back To Site" in Asset Tree Folder view

On a box-stock 7.4.13/0.8.0 install I've just done (SLES10 over OpenSUSE 10.2, which seems to work just fine -- at least it works the same as my RHEL4 over CentOS 4.5 install), the Back To Site link on the right sidebar of a Asset Tree view of a folder points to that folder, without "?func=manageAssets" at the end, which comes up in what appears to be the Fail Safe style, according to part of a sloppy bug ticket I recently closed. So my request is for clarification: is that really the best place that "Back to Site" could be aimed at, on that category of page? At other places in the Admin interface, it seems, pretty uniformly, to point back to /home, instead, which makes more sense to me based on how it's labeled. If I'm the only one who thinks its target should be changed, shouldn't it at least stay in the admin style, instead of dropping back to FailSafe? I'd be interested to hear some discussion; if there's a concensus, I'll file a feech. (Unless some people other than me think it's really a bug :-)

outgoing mail stuck in WebGUI mailQueue

Hello, we've experienced this problem once before and never nailed down a specific cause. There were some theories about DNS issues, but nothing definitive and the problem hasn't appeared since. We haven't seen the issue in 7.3.21 (current live system) but it has re-appeared in our test system running the latest 7.4.13 Symptoms: when using forms that send mail, the messages get queued up in the database table "mailQueue" but they are not released and there is no indication of activity in the postfix log. In the past when this happened, we could restart postfix and restart webgui, and somehow that seemed to trigger them. Now that does not seem to work either. I've also tried pressing "Run" under Admin Console-> Scheduler-> Send Queued Email Messages Every 5 Minutes but that also does not seem to do anything (it says "done" but no activity in postfix log, and records still in mailQueue table) Any suggestions? Thanks.

Problem with unstyled pages - long and wide

( I apologize for the wide; I don't know why the editor isn't wordwrapping this; there's no PRE in it...)   Ok.  My Saturday afternoon problem was 3 different interacting things: Bad permissions on 2 different uploads folders The fact that WG was trying to upload to one and download from the other one (likely due either to a blown upgrade or an incompatibility; it went away when I reinstalled WRE from production). The fact that I forgot to FileUrl the background img calls in the CSS Having fixed all of those things, I'm getting mostly what I expect.  But there are two places where I still get a page back from WG with no style sheet on it. One of them is when I try to click throuh to an entry I've put in a wiki; the page is /concordance, and the wiki is conc-wiki. Clicking into an entry in Recent Changes gives me a completely templated page, but with no CSS.  The CSS link in the source appears correct, but I get this in webgui.log: 2007/10/29 07:57:09 - WARN - www.heinleinsociety.org.conf - main::[[undef]] - Th e URL conc-wiki/root/themes/ths-08-theme/midnight.css was requested, but does no t exist in your asset tree. Note that it's apparently trying to improperly prepend the name of the asset on the page to the name of the css (which, in the template, is root/themes/ths-08-theme/midnight.css .  I've tried replacing root/ with ^/; as suggested here but that breaks the CSS on all pages, even if I put in the extra slash that's missing there: ^/;/ .) Secondly, the "Back to Site" links on the asset tree viewer pages which I get back after I edit an asset, don't point to a real page on the site, they point to, frex:  http://www.baylink.com/root/themes/ths-08-theme?noCache=845:1193665664 which page comes back to me, also unstyled.  No entry in webgui.log this time, but the debug on the page looks like this: {

FilePile returns to unstyled folder list; no pics

7.4.11; just upgraded atop WRE 0.8 using the auto upgrade feature. To reproduce: Create /root/Themes Create /root/Themes/THS 08 Theme FilePile - add one 101KB jpg Save What I now see is the Adminbar with an unstyled folder contents page (with url http://www.websitename.org/root/import/themes/ths-08-style) with no files in it. This is from a freshly created site made with the wreconsole and not the site wizard. Be happy to post log snippets but not sure which ones are useful. The wreconsole built the site with /data/domains/www.websitename.com/public/uploads owned by root instead of webgui; had to fix that by hand. Thoughts?

ServerAlias

Running wre-0.8.0-rhel4-ia32 I want www.domain1.com and www.domain2.com to resolve to the same WebGUI site. So I have setup in WRE Console both the Modperl and Modproxy with: ServerName www.domain1.com ServerAlias www.domain2.com In the www.domain1.com.conf file also configured from WRE Console I have: "sitename" : [ "www.domain1.com", "www.domain2.com" ], DNS resolves both to the same IP. When I try http://www.domain1.com I get the homepage and all is well. When I try http://www.domain2.com I get a "...waiting" forever. The server does not respond. Any ideas on how to setup a server alias in 0.8.0...? Thanks. Steven

How to interpret and where to find log's

Hi, in this RFE the default log level in the example file is changed to ERROR form WARNING. In the WUC talk about logging I learned that you can do all sorts of things with the logfiles and configuration thereof. Yet I cannot find anything on this on the webgui.org or plainblack.com site. I assume that there is some documentation on this in the WebGUI Administrators Guide book or in WebGUI Done Right. I cannot confirm this though. I didn't recieve the ordered Administrators Guide yet. I'd like to create one or more wiki pages on the subject that contain at least a startingpoint for using the logfiles. Would that be appreciated?

Solaris 10 Install Struggles

Hi all, Apologies in advance if any of what I'm about to discuss has already been covered. I did a few searches and didn't see anything, but it admittedly wasn't the most thorough look possible. I just completed a source install on a solaris 10 server. I ran into several issues which I think I managed to deal with myself, and a couple that are still fighting me. Item the first: gcc 3.4.3 gave me some trouble. I ended up installing gcc 3.4.5 via pkg-get and that allowed me to start compiling lftp (the first of the prereqs, I believe). Second: there's a problem with the openssl source that prevents a successful compile. It wants to use the compiler option -march=ultrasparc, but I think it's supposed to be -mcpu=ultrasparc. There are 2-4 files in the source for openssl that I changed (config, Configure, and I can't remember the other two) to allow openssl to compile. Next, once it's installed, the default apache configurations call for the group to be #-1, which doesn't seem to work for me on solaris. I created a group called webgui, altered the apache configs for modperl and modproxy, and then changed file ownership accordingly. Next, apache was having problems starting because it said that Apache2::SizeLimit wasn't implemented on solaris. I tracked this down to an improper version comparison in SizeLimit.pm, which evaluates the version as a string and thus thinks that '2.10' is less than '2.6'. Now, with this all done, I'm able to start up the webconsole and define a site. However, I'm now having two problems I don't know how to solve. First, I'm getting errors in modperl.error.log about Apache2::SizeLimit httpd process too big. I'm not sure how to tweak values to allow this to work. Next, I'm getting sql errors when I try to go to the news section of a site I created. It says that the column 'dateUpdated' in an order clause isn't defined. Did I do something improper when defining my site, or am I expected to do some additional task to complete the table definitions in mysql? Thanks for any assistance anyone can provide.

env_proxy during WRE install?

What is the recommended way to pass http_proxy environment information on to the WRE for the install process, which is failing when it tries to determine the latest WebGUI version? I've always ignored the problem when it would come up running testEnvironment.pl, but it would sure be nice if WebGUI and accoutrements would pick up http_proxy environment variable information and make use of it when trying to talk to the internet.

I have an existing site that will be migrated to WebGUI. I need an experienced WebGUI developer to migrate the site. FWIW I have tried to get PlainBlack to give a quote even answer the phone. They seem very flaky but maybe just bad luck.

Installing WRE 0.8.0 on Ubuntu 6.06 LTS

Binaries: wre-0.8.0-ubuntu6-ia32.tar.gz System: Ubuntu 6.06LTS "Dapper Drake" This is not my first time installing WebGUI (this make my 3rd installation). Each time that I have performed the install that task has become easier each time. I can say that the WRE and WebGUI gets better all the time. The first time I was pretty much a newbie with respect to administering a Linux server (or any type of server) and made a lot of mistakes to begin with. It took me the better part of a week fighting dependentcies on a FC4 distro (pre wre) to install WebGUI. I have just upgraded to wre0.8.0 on my test server (Ubuntu 6.06LTS) and it was a fairly painless install. I only encountered a couple of issues along the way. Using the "Installing WRE 0.8.0" instructions from the wiki for my guide made the task painless and was pretty accurate for the most part. I have a couple of questions though. 1. Step 2 in the guide adds a webgui user. Is this suppose to be a non-login type user and it seems to indicate? The command being used seems to be designed for the fedora distro. For a ubuntu/debian distro it would be something like: adduser --shell --disabled-login webgui or perhaps: adduser --shell --no-create-home webgui 2. Step 8c in the guide sets the password for root/administrator in the MySQL database. This is the one thing that always gets me in trouble every time I have installed wre/WebGUI. Twice previously I ended up manually changing the password field in the database. The line spit out by wreconsole.pl is something like this: /data/wre/prereqs/bin/mysqladmin -u root password 'new-password' /data/wre/prereqs/bin/mysqladmin -u root -h <hostname> password 'new-password' With a ubuntu/debian distro I think the command should be something like this: /data/wre/prereqs/bin/mysqladmin -u root --password new-password /data/wre/prereqs/bin/mysqladmin -u root -h <hostname> --password new-password Some how or other this is the point where I manage to trash the passowrd or rather get confused as to what I have set the root password and end up manually changing the field. This is the point I am at right now. That is, setting the password in the MySQL database and I haven't quite gotten it right yet. If some one could clarify things on the 1st issue and set me straight on the 2nd issue It would complete my install so I can go on to the next step (Step 9). Thanks in advance, Neil

Removing ?

Where can I go in the system to remove that line of code from appearing in the code. Tried the templates, settings, and so on, but can't find it anywhere. Here's the background. I have a server running 6.2.11 under Windows, and I understand that it cannot be upgraded from that unless I were to manually transfer all of the content into a fresh install (is that still the case?). I cannot do that since there is a LOT of content in there. Yet I understand that 6.2.11 is "prone to arbitrary code execution", so I want to at least obfuscate it in such a way as to not show that line thus advertizing "Hey folks! I may be vunerable to certain forms of attacks! Why don't you come right over?". cheers.

No Menu after upgrade 7.3.13 -> 7.3.22 (non-WRE)

Hi! I just upgraded an WebGUI-installation from 7.3.13 to 7.3.22. This server (Debian Etch) hosts several sites with WebGUI. Everything seems to have worked fine except on one site where i can't seem to get the menu working. I have 'CaretAssetProxy("flexmenu_1002");' embedded in the style template where the menu is supposed to be. It renders the actual code and not the menu, and in the logs i can see: 2007/09/19 16:12:48 - ERROR - sitename.tld.conf - main::[[undef]] - Processing failed on macro: CaretAssetProxy("flexmenu_1002");: Operation "eq": no method found, left argument in overloaded package JSON::NotString, right argument has no overloaded magic at /data/WebGUI/lib/WebGUI/Utility.pm line 155. I have tried googling and searching the forums here, but haven't found anything useful. The only difference i can see betwen this site and a fully working site (on the same machine) is that the asset flexmenu_1002 was apparently locked during the upgrade (there were non-comitted changes in a version tag.). I have since unlocked it, but it still fails. The WebGUI-installation is not WRE but installed and upgraded from source. I have ran testEnvironment.pl with no errors. Sadly i lost the output from upgrade.pl, is this logged somewhere? I don't think there were any serious errors during upgrade, but things scrolled by a little too fast to tell... I made a quick diff between configs, but couldn't see any major differences. I have tried other assets too such as crumbtrail, same result, only the code is showing. I would be very grateful for any advice. (the forum wouldn't let me post the caret-character, so i replaced it with the name instead) Kind regards /Andreas

MySQL won't stay running (wre 0.8.0)

On a machine inside an OpenVZ image -- where I successfully installed WRE 0.8.0 last week and had it running just fine -- I tried last night to reinstall it (having renamed my /data directory out of the way) so that I could finish up writing the WRE Install wiki article for 0.8. Alas, of course, the install didn't work quite so well the second time around. So I moved the first one back (after shutting everything down) and ... MySQL won't stay running. It can't seem to decide between can't bind the port, and can't find the socket. This time it's the port: 070908 15:14:48 mysqld started 070908 15:14:48 [ERROR] Can't start server : Bind on unix socket: Permission den ied 070908 15:14:48 [ERROR] Do you already have another mysqld server running on soc ket: /data/wre/var/mysqldata/mysql.sock ? 070908 15:14:48 [ERROR] Aborting 070908 15:14:48 [Note] /data/wre/prereqs/libexec/mysqld: Shutdown complete 070908 15:14:48 mysqld ended I am su'd to root, and I've tried wre-mysql start and webgui mysqlstart to start it by itself; same results. lsof shows no one open on TCP/3306. /data/wre/var/mysqldata does in fact not contain a mysql.sock, and when I create one, then try the start, it goes away. Any suggestions? I really don't *think* I did anything different on the second install, but this is back to the first one, and it won't work either.

I went to check the log files (/data/domains/www.mysite.com/logs) and the access.log has a current date. I then checked the awstats configuration file (/data/wre/etc/awstats.www.mysite.com.conf). The LogFile value is configured to analyze access.log.0. When I tail access.log.0, it's last logfile was Sunday. Why is WRE using the rotated file? Is this a bug?
I have just recently installed wegbui(impressed by the great easy-to-use features for a beginner and being web-based) using wre and the installation worked great, but there seems to be problem accessing any of the webGUI pages.
