If you post to this forum requesting diagnostic help, please include the following information:

  • indicate whether you are performing a WRE or source install
  • indicate which OS you are using
  • the error response you are getting:
    •  With WRE: mod_proxy error log. Places to look: /data/wre/var/logs/modproxy.error.log
      mod_perl error log: /data/wre/var/logs/modperl.error.log
      WebGUI Log:
      /data/wre/var/logs/webgui.log
    •  w/o WRE: apache error log is where your distribution / OS puts it. WebGUI error log is /var/log/webgui.log
Including this simple information will help others help you.

Hi Kristy,

These are great suggestions. I don't understand what you mean by the following:

  • include a list of places to look for diagnositic data in a source or a wre install

That seems to be putting the cart before the horse by asking a user who is having trouble to go find where to look for the diagnostic data. They probably don't know. Even if they did, I'm not sure how that information is going to help us diagnose a problem remotely. Could you clarify?

Thanks,
William

You're right, knowmad. I posted this in response to an RFE and forgot to delete that line- it's covered by the error log info. Thx for pointing it out.

And, the main point is to request that people include as much relevant info as they can.

It seems that a lot of the posts here actually do not read this post or they ignore it's contents.

Might it be possible to change the template for posting in this forum so that it shows in bold on top of the edit window:

Please state if you are using WRE or Source install and what OS you are using!

Perhaps that will help.
