A Silver Lining
A Silver Lining
We're still in the thick of a recession/depression depending on who you ask. Plain Black is still thriving and yet as a business owner I still have many thoughts and reservations about how the economy will affect us in the long run. Are we going to be able to continue to weather the storm if it lasts another year, 2, or even 3? What sorts of concessions are we going to have to make if we can't and what does that mean for my employees, WebGUI, and the community at large? While I think about those mostly, I also can't help but think of the “good” that has come from this and one of the big things is Plain Black's talent pool when hiring new employees. There are a lot of really good people out there that had jobs, but lost them in all this mess. They are doing all they can to get back to work and because of this Plain Black has never seen so many qualified applicants for our new hire positions. Others are trying other ways to make it through until they can get some steady work, so we've also seen the pool of contractors increase. As a business owner that's doing well, I'm excited by these last couple. With the economy steadying and maybe even turning around a bit, I'm glad Plain Black is able to do its part to help with that recovery. And if it's a little easier to fill positions with hard working, qualified applicants then I'm OK with that too. |
