Blogs, Blogs and More Blogs

Everyone is blogging these days. Anyone who's reading this has seen the increase in blog posts done by the Plain Black staff. Some of our blogs are educational (such as the design group's hints and tricks), some are interesting because they give insight into something new, such as JT's Black blog, while other posts, such as mine, ramble on about whatever happens to pop into my head that day. So why do people read them? Why does anyone care what I think about subject X or Y. Better yet, why does anyone care what the average Joe thinks of the economy, Amazon rain forest or some pothole he encounters on his commute to work?

I can certainly see why people read some of the more informative blogs. There's lots of good stuff in the designers hints and it's coming from experts. But I'm trying to rationalize why someone would care what I think about something. I'm sure there are hundreds of people smarter and more interesting to read than I when it comes to pretty much anything I've written. But people have read them and more interestingly have commented on them. I think it's there where I hit on why so many people blog these days. It feels good to know that people care about what I say. It's even nicer to know there are people out there who experience the same things (since people can post comments back). Shared experiences are one of things that brings us closer to our friends. If we can have them with people hundreds or thousands of miles away it makes the world seem a little less large and us seem a little less insignificant in it.

It seems that as long as there are blogs, someone, somewhere will read it. And because of that there will keep on being more and more blogs. It's definitely something that's here to stay. I guess it's not so bad to know that “Joe” is struggling like the rest of us with the economy. It means we're in this together and that's a comforting thought. So keep on reading and writing those blogs.

I wouldn't knock your blog posts.  You've talked about some pretty useful things like working from home and insurance.  Both help of those helped me get perlDreamer Consulting started.
