would be nice to have a "disable archive" option in the properties of a
collaboratoin system. Or add to the documentation or help system. (I
didn't see it when I last searched, but maybe it's there now)

Good one! I had some complaints of users that some of the questions of a FAQ and other stuff was missing. After a search I found out that it was a year ago that the posts were added and the Collaboration system setting was on the default of 1 year. I think default it should be turned off.

If you delete the workflow, it doesn't work for any Collaboration system on your site anymore. That's why a option in the Collaboration system properties would be better.

Indeed I second that one.
By the way, since archived posts can still be accessed by a custom search, why do not allow Visitors to see them by providing an "archived posts" link? That could be in the default template or added as an option...
Otherwise I really don't see the benefit of the actual implementation.

A new property for Collaboration Systems called "Enable Archiving" has been added in revision 6258 for version 7.5.11.
Turning this to "no" causes the Archive Old Threads workflow activity to skip the collaboration. It does not automatically restore threads already archived.
