...which makes it impossible to see what's been fixed, and how.

Perhaps an archive status that is invisible, instead, to which closed bugs move when they're over a month old?

Forget how we do it for a second, I'm not sure I understand what you want to do that you can't do now. Could you explain what needs you have that aren't being met by the current bug tracker?

If you make entries in the bug tracker vanish when they're closed, then other people who may see that bug, have it, or have something similar to it can't see the bug thread, which means they have to file their own.

I know that I checked to see if closed bugs drop out of the search as well, but I don't remember the result; it's been a busy month.

This is devolving into a design debate, and I know you don't enjoy those, so I should probably shut up now.

So, to be clear: what can't *I* do now that I would be able to do?

Follow instructions by searching to see if someone else has already had my problem.  I *have* to file my own new bug, because I can't see the closed ones, whether the result was FIXED or WONTFIX.

I completely disagree with your premise, but your desire is real so I can't ignore that. The fact is that almost no one even reads the open bugs before they submit a bug, let alone goes through the trouble to look at closed bugs.

However, I can see the need for being able to search closed bugs more efficiently. But there is already another RFE open for that, so let's consolidate by closing this one in favor of the one that's been open for a while.
