Finally after many months of back and forth with Apple, our iPhone based photo upload utility has been approved in the iTunes app store. It's free to download and use.

This app integrates with the WebGUI Gallery, so you can publish photos directly from your iPhone to your WebGUI Gallery seamlessly. It works just like the iPhoto plugin we developed except that you can only upload one photo at a time, and this app is free.

Click here to download the app in iTunes today.

That sounds really cool, but I guess I still prefer my Canon Rebel  Digital SLR, and my New Sony 12.1 MB 290 compact cameras.

These are probably the top of the line for most of us amatuers out there, is there going to be a plugin for the gallery which will permit us to upload multiple photos from our PCs?

If you have a mac, then the iPhoto plugin already exists. If you're on
Windows, then you'll have to wait a few more weeks until the Google
Picasa plug-in comes out. We ran into some stumbling blocks finding
someone that could develop the plugin for us. We have a good guy on
the job now, and it's coming along nicely.

Tried to install this to an iPod Touch, but says it's not compatible, does it have a requirement to access the phone's camera? Or any other technical limitations?

Because the app is for uploading pictures, which you can only take
with an iPhone, we didn't bother testing it on iPod touch. In order to
use it with your touch you'd first need to transfer files to your
touch, and then upload them. That to us seemed like a lot of work for
no gain, especially since we already have the iPhoto plugin, and the
Picasa plugin is on route.

I guess if you really want to use it on iPod touch, and you can give
me an argument for why other people might want to do that, we could
put in some effort to making it iPod touch compatible.

One thing that keeps coming back the last few weeks is uploading multiple files to WebGUI and uploading large files to WebGUI.

Too bad the feature freeze is in effect, but perhaps we could create something as an extra to WebGUI that allows you to upload multiple files and large files to WebGUI with some kind of 'drop box' mechanism.

Of course such a tool would have to work from Windows, Mac and Linux so it's not something trivial.

What are your thoughts on this?

If you want multiple file uploads in a way that is supported by many clients and operating systems, a native webdav connector for webgui would be amazing. How to tie this to the assett systems would need a lot of thought.
