You may have noticed that it's now August, and WebGUI 7.7 has not gone stable, even though the plan is always to put out a new stable release in July.

The truth of the matter is that we did not put as much effort as we should have into bug fixing and testing right before and after 7.6 went stable, and we've been playing catch up ever since. We know that many of you purposefully run the previous stable edition of WebGUI, and as such we want to make sure that 7.6 is as stable as it can be before we move on to 7.7 since many of you are and will be using it in production for quite some time. I apologize that we didn't apply the resources to get this done earlier in the year.

Ever since May we've dedicated at least one full time resource to this effort, and many others on staff and in the community have also been helping out. I think this has gotten us into a very good position with 7.6, so the final 7.6 release will come out next week on Tuesday, August 12th.

The process of getting caught up with 7.6 has delayed the testing process on WebGUI 7.7. However, I'm confident we can still have 7.7 to a stable state before the WUC.

I think you'll agree that it's better to delay the stable release rather than put WebGUI and your site's future in jeopardy. Thank you for your understanding and patience. WebGUI 7.7 has an amazing new feature set, and it will be worth the wait.

I most certainly agree. Before development on 7.6 is stopped it should be made very, very stable.

And before 7.7 is declared stable the upgrade from 7.6 to 7.7 should be very well tested. Perhaps now is the time to talk about release candidates?

WebGUI 7.6 is as stable as it's going to get. If someone else wants to
put more money into the effort of supporting 7.6 they are welcome to
it. But we have only a limited budget for R&D and 7.6 has outlived
it's budget at this point.

I like and agree with the decision to delay 7.7. A stable product is very important.

Thank you, your team and the community for the great work.

All the best for WUC.

One day maybe WUC may come to Asia. Just dreaming. Laughing

My post is not about agreeing or not with the decsion (I do ). My post is about how awsome it is for a company trying to make a living in this tough time, apologizing for a delay in a product they release for free. Is that not awesome? Bigger companies, with tons of resources fail to apologize for crappy code that is delayed for years.

PB and JT have my vote any time.

Or worse yet, companies that release crappy code on time because their marketing departments drive release schedules, and they have too much riding on an on-time release of a promised product to allow delays -- even when they know the product is going to cause major problems for their customers.

PlainBlack  and JT also have my respect for putting greater value on a good product than on sticking to arbitrary deadlines (though I do look forward to a stable 7.7).
