Hi, I'm JT and these are my thoughts on community, content management, Plain Black, and WebGUI.
Over the past few weeks I've been mulling it over, and I've finally come to a decision: WebGUI 8 will be written in PHP. The reasons for this switch are vast and numerous, but I'll try to list the important ones here.
Probably the most important reason to make the switch is that all of the best written CMS's are written in PHP. So if we switch to PHP, we'll also be one of the best written CMS's available. And that's important.
Beyond that, PHP is just the right language to do web application development in. It has strong support for writing network daemons like Spectre. It's also quite secure from SQL injection attacks due to its excellent addslashes command. Plus it puts the power of the programming language into the hands of graphic designers and office workers alike.
A recent study found that there are more qualified PHP developers than all other programming languages combined. Even many high school students are picking up PHP, so there will be many PHP developers for years to come.
I know some die hard Perl fans won't be happy to hear about the switch, but I think this is best for the community. And I look forward to proving it in the months and years ahead.
That's a great idea JT. But it can't be easy. I know of some guys who said they would rewrite WebGUI in PHP in six weeks and calling it Webphoei. But we have not heard from them since, did we?
Great link by the way. WebGUI's dope!
Kind regards,
Arjan Widlak
JT, I know you're just kidding around about WebGUI 8 running on PHP, but the story has been picked up on a major news site as serious news! You'd think being April Fool's they would know it was a joke.
Hmm - why not Basic?
It's even easier for high school kids to handle and old hackers like me can tinker with peek() and poke() again.
Think about it - at least take a few weeks before next April 1 comes around...
