Hi, I'm JT and these are my thoughts on community, content management, Plain Black, and WebGUI.

We recently announced that the WebGUI Users Conference (WUC) is changing into a community driven event. This means a much better conference for everyone, for a much lower price. It still has the SWAG we all love, and delicious hot meals come with the price of the ticket. The conference is still three tracks over two days just like last year. It's just that the price is $400 instead of $500 per person.

Another big difference you'll notice right away is that there are more community speakers than Plain Black speakers. This is good news. It means that our community has grown sufficiently large enough to train each other. We have lots of experts in our community now.

But the WUC just got even better. As a result of opening it up to be a community driven event, a few members of the community have decided to organize a day long WebGUI hackathon before the WUC. If you're not a programmer, that's ok. You can just as easily hack out some new documentation in the community wiki, or create some new templates for the Bazaar. Or if you are a programmer, but don't know how to get started, come on in to the Hackathon and we'll get you set up!

This is a community driven hackathon, therefore a ticket to the WUC is not required to participate. Plain Black is putting up the funds to rent out a conference room in the same hotel as the WUC, so just come to the conference a day early, hang out, make new friends, and hack on WebGUI. The hackathon will be on Wednesday, September 9th at the concourse hotel. So far approximately 10 people will be there. Let's see if we can make it 50 by the time the WUC gets here.

I will be present to support the WebGUI hacking on the WRE end.

After all, if the WebGUI hacking part needs extra perl modules or changes to the underlying platform someone has to facilitate that.
