I was looking up what perl modules in the WRE had new versions and guess what, almost all of them. :)
One in particular surprized me and that was trace. In WRE 0.8.3 version 0.51 is used, but I cannot find a call to it anywhere.
And on CPAN I found that 'trace - Module Reanmed to Devel::XRay' and Devel::XRay is at version 0.941.
But where is it used and is it still needed?

No idea. it's not used by WebGUI and never was. However, it probably was or is used by some other module that either the WRE or WebGUI relies upon.

I'm building a WRE that uses all the latest dependancies that have been labelled 'stable', like apache 2.2 and new perl modules.
Would you advise not to use certain modules?

OK, understood. I'll try and see if it is used for anything.

For your own purposes you can use whatever you want. For the purposes
of the WRE release process I don't upgrade modules unless there is a
bug or a security problem with one of them until a major WRE release
comes out (like 0.9.0). This is to protect people from dependency
problems.

I'm sorry, but that is not an answer to the question.
The question was: would you advise not to use certain modules?
The answer I got was an answer to the question: can I use whatever module I would like?

I have no advice on what modules you should or shouldn't use for your
own personal builds.

Would you like me to participate in development of WRE 0.9?

Absolutely. And for WRE 0.9 there are no stable components you should
refrain from using as far as I know of at this point.

That is good to hear. I'll try and create a WRE that might serve as a start for WRE 0.9
