Community Involvement

Plain Black is proud to support community organizations. Here are some examples of our involvement.

Plain Black Softball Team

Plain Black Corporation is proud to support local communities, and is currently sponsoring a namesake softball team in Onalaska, WI. The team's participation fees were donated to the Onalaska Parks and Recreation Department, and Plain Black team members are outfitted in company t-shirts. The family-oriented team has returned the favor with a successful season, currently standing at 9-1 and leading the league heading into the playoffs. Plain Black congratulates the team on a successful season and looks forward to continued community participation.

MadMongers is the Madison, WI chapter of Perl Mongers, a user group that supports the use of Perl in its professional and personal projects. Each month the local chapter meets at the Madison Public Library where members of the community and Plain Black's staff present on various Perl related topics and discuss their current projects. Plain Black sponsors MadMongers in all aspects, including hosting and maintaining its website. Plain Black also sponsored the Chicago Perl Mongers chapter when the company was headquartered in Illinois.

OSS Chicago

While headquartered in Illinois, Plain Black sponsored OSS Chicago. The free community users group meets monthly and encourages the exchange of ideas in the open source community in an effort to educate and encourage open source participation.

Pink for October

In October 2006, Plain Black's website went completely pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Visitors to the site were encouraged to donate to Breast Cancer Research and were provided a link to the American Cancer Society website.
